BBC Newcastle reporter provides update on two deals – Barcelona defender & Arsenal attacker

According to BBC Newcastle’s Matthew Raisbeck, Newcastle are ‘hoping’ to sign Barcelona defender Marlon Santos before today’s 5pm deadline – with a hearing scheduled today to see if he will be granted an all important work permit.

The Radio Newcastle reporter has also denied claims that we are in for Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck, pouring cold water on The Telegraph’s claims that we were one of four clubs trying to sign the England international today.

It was confirmed last night that we agreed a deal to take the 22-year old on a season-long loan, however it was also insisted that the move hinged on a work permit – something that has been described as a real ‘issue’ given his lack of caps at international level.

Here’s what he’s had to say on deals for both Marlon Santos and Danny Welbeck in the last few moments:

Fingers crossed on the Marlon deal.

With just hours left to go and this appearing to be the only deal we have ‘agreed’ as of now, let’s hope a work permit is granted!
