Journalist reveals pathetic reason Ashley refused to give Benitez control of transfers this summer
Luke Edwards has revealed the ridiculous reason behind why the board refused to back Benitez over certain transfers this summer – claiming they questioned his judgement based on previous failings; also punishing him for his failure to sign a new contract.
The fact Rafa was forced into looked into bargain options is bad enough, but to then undermine a world class manager who you claim to back, is a new low.
Here is what Luke Edwards claims:

Edwards has been a long time journalist following all things NUFC and does a good job of portraying the real state of the club, recently doing a sterling job of outlining why the fans backed the players bonus strike on TalkSport. This was refreshing against the backdrop of the national press not understanding why Newcastle fans are so frustrated, as Ashley and Bishop continue to try to win the PR war.
But even by Ashley’s standards, not backing Rafa because he won’t sign a new contract is pathetic and will only drive him out the club. Comical when retaining a world class manager was high on his lettered response to parliament only last week.
And to not trust Rafa because of a few bad signings is just bad business sense as Edwards says. Every club signs players that don’t work out, it’s impossible to get them all right and is part of the game. Arguably, if Rafa wasn’t forced to shop for bargains he would have been even more successful with transfers and this argument doesn’t consider the brilliant buys of Kenedy, Dubravka, Diame and Lejeune to name a few examples.
This latest update shows the club is rotten from the top down and we need an overhaul as soon as possible to stand any chance of keeping Rafa her for the long term.
