Federico Fernandez reveals the player who convinced him to sign from Swansea on deadline day

NUFC new boy Federico Fernandez has admitted the former Swansea team-mate Ki Sung-Yeung played a big part in convincing him to sign at St James’ Park on deadline day.

The Argentinian international completed his £6m move from Swansea late last Thursday and claims that Ki’s glowing reference made it an easy decision for him.

Here’s what he’s had to say about our interest, also claiming that the South Korean ‘only had good things to say’ about the club and the city prior to his move:

“I found out a couple of weeks ago that Newcastle were interested. But it was really in the last two days of the window that it became something more intense,”

“I spoke with Ki a lot before I came. He only had good things to say about the club, the city and everyone at Newcastle.

“When I was on my way (to Newcastle on deadline day), he sent me a message telling me he was glad I was joining him. Everything was fine, we have a very good relationship.”

This is good to hear, proving just how much Ki is enjoying life on Tyneside following his free agent arrival earlier this summer.

Fernandez missed out on our opening day encounter with Spurs – with Rafa stating that he linked up with the squad too late on Friday to be involved – however he may be included in the trip to Cardiff.
