Good news – Rafa Benitez set for double boost ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Cardiff?

Rafa Benitez looks set to handed a double boost ahead tomorrow’s lunch time clash with Cardiff – with DeAndre Yedlin in contention to for a surprise start and Salomon Rondon now tipped to make his Newcastle debut.

Starting with Yedlin, it looked like the American had picked up a serious knee injury in the closing stages of last weekend’s defeat to Spurs, however scans came back positive – with the club announcing that the injury was NOT serious.

He was still rated as a doubt for this weekend’s game when the positive news was released on Wednesday, however the following clip shows him back in full training with the first team just yesterday – suggesting he could we be ready to play tomorrow after all:

This is a real relief. He may not have been at his best against Spurs, but I think most would agree that he offers much more than potential replacement Javier Manquillo – especially when he could be up against Cardiff’s pacey wingers in Junior Hoilett and Josh Murphy.

Then to Rondon. He was unable to start last Saturday and didn’t look 100% fit when he came on, but he’s now had a week of full training and Benitez has spoken highly of him this week – admitting he can offer the power and mobility Joselu is unable to offer.

The Chronicle have also hinted that he could take Joselu’s place up top. Some may feel the Spaniard deserves another shot, but Rondon’s presence could give us a timely boost.

Not only that, Muto will be in the same boat and may be able to be brought on earlier this time around if Perez is having an off day.
