Less than a year after Newcastle scouts watched him in CSKA Moscow’s Champions League clash with Benfica, it has now been confirmed that Aaron Olanare has left the Russian giants by ‘mutual consent’ – making him available to sign on a free.
The 6ft 3′ powerhouse spent last season on loan with fellow Russian Premier League side Amkar Perm – going on to score 2 goals in 8 appearances – however the 24-year-old was released by CSKA last month.
Here’s the tweet from scouting database ‘Scouts in Attendance’, confirming we had scouted him several times last year:
#nufc scouted 23yo #CSKA Moscow FW Aaron Olanare again v #benfica on Tues, watched him prev v Young Boys, #thfc toohttps://t.co/g2uE6eg26X

Olanare has two goals in seven appearances for Nigeria and may just be considered by Rafa Benitez if we are ever in desperate need for a striker over the coming months.
Currently, our options include Rondon, Joselu and Muto (although it’s unlikely the latter will be used as a lone striker much).
An injury to either Rondon or Joselu may force Rafa into considering his options – and Olanare could be one IF we were remotely impressed by him during scouting.
Hasn’t he filled his squad already?

Provided he isn’t poison in the changeroom, we should take anyone with some talent up top, for competition and depth. The phrase ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ comes to mind.
