The club have released a clip of the players in training on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s game with Arsenal and whilst it is great news to see both Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey involved, there was no sign of Salomon Rondon or DeAndre Yedlin.
The pair were in action for their country in the early hours of Wednesday morning and whilst both only featured from the bench (with Rondon scoring two for Venezuela), they’ll have returned to the UK on Thursday – explaining why they won’t have taken part.
That being said, this shows that they’ll only get one training session in (on Friday) before Saturday’s game with Arsenal, meaning both could end up missing out on Benitez’s starting XI to face Arsenal this weekend.
On the plus side, both Shelvey and Ritchie now look odds on to return, with the below video showing both featuring in full training after injuries kept them out of our last game at Man City:

It sounds like a late decision will be made on Rondon and Yedlin (we’ll hear more during Rafa’s presser no doubt), but it’s great to see that both Ritchie and Shelvey are back in full training.
