According to Sky Sports’ ‘Power Rankings’ from the first five games of the new Premier League season, Ciaran Clark has been our top performing player so far.
As stated by Sky, the rankings ‘reflect a player’s performance by awarding points for 34 different stats’, with the table below showing who they believe to be the top performing player for each Premier League club after five games this season:
They also have a table of the top 50 most ‘in-form’ players in the Premier League and it’s no surprise to hear that there is not one Newcastle player in that list – with Clark’s above score of 2,603 being lower than all 19 other clubs’ ‘top performing player’.
Some will be completely dismissive of these ‘stats’ and I can understand why given Ciaran Clark has come out as our top performing player so far.
To me, the likes of Fernandez, Ritchie, Dubravka and Yedlin have all been better – although I suspect Clark’s late goal against Arsenal may have boosted his score.
It’s a case of ‘the best of a bad bunch’ here given our poor start to the season, but who do you think has been our stand out performer so far?
