Injury update arrives on Rondon, Fernandez and Dummett – It’s good & bad news

Rafa Benitez is ‘hopeful’ that Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett will be fit to face Manchester United at the weekend – however The Chronicle claim that Salomon Rondon is ‘likely’ to miss out once again.

Both Fernandez and Dummett missed Saturday’s defeat to Leicester with hamstring injuries, but Benitez has confirmed that these are only ‘light injuries’ – hinting that both could be back for Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford.

Here’s what Rafa said when asked about the pair, suggesting that he didn’t want to risk either over the weekend after seeing things backfire when starting Rondon and Lascelles when they weren’t fully fit recently:

“They are light injuries so not long, they are not very bad,”

“We had to make a decision and, in the last two games, we had a problem with Rondon and Lascelles and we had to make a substitution during the game. We preferred to go with players who were fully fit, that’s it.”

So, it sounds like Fernandez and Dummett will be fine, which means our defence should be back to full strength, however Rondon’s absence will be an untimely one once again.

Rafa suggested last Fridat that he may be out for a ‘couple of weeks’, so let’s hope he can definitely be back for the crucial home game against Brighton in two weeks time – with the international break arriving after Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford.
