Mike Ashley has issued a statement on the club’s official website in a bid to ‘put the record straight’ after accusations that he made a ‘V-sign’ towards NUFC supporters after a meal with Rafa Benitez on Wednesday night.
Ashley categorically denies the claims, saying he ‘did not make a ‘V-sign’ to anyone’ – stating it would be ‘inaccurate’ and ‘irresponsible’ for anyone to suggest that he did.
Not only that, he now claims to have put this matter in the hands of his legal team, stating that they will be contacting the ‘relevant newspaper editors’ who ran the story that he intentionally put two fingers up to supporters as he got in the car on Wednesday night.
Heres’ the statement released on NUFC.co.uk – followed by the video itself showing Ashley’s ‘V-sign’:
“I did not make a ‘V-sign’ to anyone. To suggest otherwise is both inaccurate and irresponsible.
“The matter is in the hands of our legal team and they will be contacting relevant newspaper editors in due course.
“It is hugely disappointing, given the reason why we set up the meeting, that certain elements of the media are trying to undermine the club by creating a story out of nothing.”

Whether he likes it or not, this does not look like him ‘scratching his ear’. If it’s not a ‘V-sign’, what exactly is this?!
