Benitez speaks out about his meal with Mike Ashley – “We spoke about everything”

Rafa Benitez has given a positive but guarded response when asked about Wednesday night’s meal with Mike Ashley today, admitting that it was a ‘pleasant dinner’ with a ‘good atmosphere’ where they talked about ‘everything’.

The Spaniard insists that everything they spoke about will stay between them, however, with him preferring to focus on Saturday’s big game at Old Trafford.

Just incase you’ve been living under a rock over the past 48 hours, Ashley took Benitez, his staff and the NUFC squad out for dinner on Wednesday night in an attempt to ‘build bridges’.

The night ended in Ashley showing a ‘V-sign’ to frustrated NUFC fans outside the restaurant as he left late on – an accusation he denied last night – however Benitez has been positive about the meeting when asked about it today.

Here’s what he’s said in the last few moments:

“It was a pleasant dinner.

“We were talking about everything. There was a good atmosphere. Everyone was relaxed. It has to be positive”.

“That’s it. Everything that we spoke about will stay between us. It is normal at clubs to have dinner with the owner.

“I won’t talk too much about we have to concentrate on football now.

“We spoke about everything.”

A positive message to the fans, but one where he’s refused to give much away.

Let’s hope things can begin to improve both on and off the pitch – starting with Man Utd away tomorrow.
