Kevin Keegan makes glaring admission about Rafa Benitez – “He can’t say it, but I can..”

Kevin Keegan has admitted that Rafa Benitez is ‘hoping and praying’ that someone comes in and buys the club before his contract expires next summer – suggesting this may be the only way to keep him at the club.

The ex-NUFC boss states that this is something he knows Benitez can’t say, however he understands that this is exactly what the Spaniard is desperate to see happen over the coming months.

As revealed by The Times’ Henry Winter, here’s what Keegan’s said today about Benitez’s situation:

“Rafa’s doing an incredible job. He sees the massive potential of the club.

“He’s hoping and praying – and he can’t say it, but I can – that someone comes and takes it and puts some investment in.”

Given Mike Ashley’s current lack of investment and the total lack of ambition shown at the club since Benitez took over, this feels like our only hope of keeping Rafa at the club – unless there’s a drastic change of approach from the NUFC owner.

Despite the bond that has been created between Benitez, the club and us NUFC supporters, he is not hear just to try and keep us up every season.

Champions League winning managers want titles and glory, not seasons where finishing in the top 10 would be seen as a huge achievement.

For the sake of everyone connected to NUFC, let’s hope Rafa gets his wish.

  1. “total lack of ambition since benitez took over” ? erm

there has been zero ambition since Ashley bought the club, survive , advertise , rinse and repeat.

  2. I’m certain that’s true, fingers crossed.

By the way, a glaring admission is when you leave something obvious out…

  3. i think there has been some confusion between the phrases “glaring omission” and “telling admission” here!

  4. Would love it if Mike Ashley sold up and the new owner(s)brought King Kev back into the fold to in some capacity. Not to replace Rafa but to work in some way…..
    It would be ‘happy days’.
