NUFC name the manager they are now ‘considering’ if Benitez can’t end winless run – Report

According to an exclusive in The Mirror, Newcastle United are now ‘considering’ a move for Brendan Rodgers if Rafa Benitez can not end our winless run in our upcoming games against Brighton, Southampton and Watford.

This is to be taken with a real pinch of salt, however the report states that ‘fears are growing behind the scenes at St James’s Park’ after seeing us pick up just two points from our opening eight fixtures this season.

Personally, I think this seems highly unlikely – especially when Mike Ashley’s latest meeting with Rafa was to try and ‘build bridges’ with the Spaniard after our struggling start.

Nevertheless, here’s a snippet from Adrian Kajumba’s piece for The Mirror:

“Newcastle are considering a move for Brendan Rodgers if Rafa Benitez can’t halt their slide.

“Fears are growing behind the scenes at St James’s Park following Newcastle’s winless start to the season and Celtic boss Rodgers is set to be one name in the frame if Benitez can’t inspire a turnaround.

“And it is their next three games – against Brighton, Southampton and Watford – that are now understood to be pivotal for Benitez and a better indicator of Newcastle’s prospects.

“Any decision to dispose of Benitez prematurely – he is now into the final year of his contract – would be hugely unpopular among supporters.”

After winning back to back trebles with Celtic, Rodger’s third season in Scotland has not gone too well so far, with them sitting behind Hearts and Hibernian in the SPL table.

If (and it’s a big if) Benitez were to be sacked, would you be happy to see Rodgers replace him?

Personally, I think this would be a barmy decision – but this is Mike Ashley we’re dealing with here..

  1. A little presumptuous lads. Brendan Rogers here for 10 in a Row, European football every season, slowly building the footballing side he wants, trophies, success, fame. Why would he swap that to fight a relegation battle every year?

  2. He wouldn’t. He has more sense than to jump ship to a club where there is no guarantee of incoming players to strengthen a severely, perhaps fatally weakened squad. As usual its just the Mirror stirring the mud at the bottom of the pond.

If “Fears are growing behind the scenes at St James’s Park following Newcastle’s winless start to the season” then

    1. They should have expected it if they had any idea about football and looked at the fixtures
    and
    2. They should have spent some money and bought some bloody players when Rafa said they needed to.

The club has ONE person within it’s ranks who knows anything about football and they continue to ignore him while the club sinks lower and lower.

  3. This story in the mirror about newcastle”considering”a move for Brendan, probably came from within the ranks of it’s sister paper the Scottish Mirror,or any other Scottish rag.
The SMSM,have been trying to disrupt Celtic for the last two seasons, with continous headline news of”Rogers linked” with every job that comes up in top flight English leagues and even a mega money move to China, all of which were fabricated,by hurting “rangers” men within the SMSM, “rangers”as they keep referrring themselves as,even though Rangers died in 2012
