Striker claims he ‘will’ sign for a Premier League club in January – and it could well be NUFC

Less than a year after he was strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park, Ghanaian striker Richmond Boakye has claimed that he ‘will’ be joining an unnamed Premier League club in January.

The Chronicle reported earlier in the year that the 25-year-old was a ‘late striker option’ for Benitez, however there were ‘doubts’ over whether he’d receive a work permit – so his comments today are intriguing given our recent interest.

Boakye has 5 goals in 13 games for Ghana and boasts an incredible record for Red Star Belgrade, scoring 42 goals in 52 games in the Serbian League.

Here’s what he’s had to say today, claiming that he’ll be signing for a Premier League side in January:

“I think is the dream of most of the players to play in England but I think this season my move to England is going to happen,”

”I’m not going to give details but it will surely happen before January,”

”In two – three months it will happen, it’s not that I am going to hope for , it will happen,”

The former Juventus youngster is said to have been watched by Chelsea scouts recently during Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Red Star, however this would be a real risk – with him only being prolific in a sub-standard Serbian League.

Here’s what The Chronicle said about our interest in Boakye in the final few days of the January window earlier in the year:

“Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye is being considered as a late striker option for Newcastle, though there are doubts over whether the Ghanaian would receive a work permit, with the Magpies quoted £4m for the forward according to sources in Serbia.”

Potentially one to watch?
