Sky Sports have revealed some harrowing stats on promoted club’s transfer activity since the summer of 2017 – confirming that our net spend is just £100,000, compared to Brighton’s £86m and Huddersfield’s £71m.
And people wonder why we’re struggling. Rafa may have got us 10th last season in a season where we really did overachieve, but there’s only so much he can do. As I said in an earlier piece, you can’t be expected to paint the Mona Lisa with just one crayon.
Not only are relatively small clubs like Brighton and Huddersfield blowing us out the water when it comes to net spends, we’ve also just seen the likes of Fulham and Wolves spend big in the summer following promotion.

Here’s some reactions to the above stat from frustrated NUFC fans on Twitter:
“Wow. And then we’ve got idiots asking whether should be sacked. No manager in the world could do any better”
“Quite astonishing figures! For all of those people who are clueless in regard to what Rafa works with, there you have it. The bloke has massive integrity and knows the value of the club and it’s fans. Only way of getting through this mess is by backing the players and Rafa.”
“We are a bare bones club whos only ambition is to just about survive and protect Ashley’s Advertising platform. Might as well just rip out all the seats and replace them with a few more advertising boards.”
“Not even ticket sales being re invested never mind player sales. We are a laughing stock these days.”
“Absolute disgrace.”
“That graphic is insane. In days of 120m TV deals, where the **** has all the money gone? How are we not hundreds of millions in profit?”
Where’s the money gone?
I think we all know..
