Jermaine Jenas’ one word answer that perfectly sums up NUFC’s performance today..

By Neil Langer

Jermaine Jenas summed up today’s performance on Football Focus in one word –  ‘depressing’.

Nine teams out of 14 who shared the Toons position in the table at this stage of the season have gone on to be relegated.

It’s has been 46 years since our last win at Southampton which represents one win in 25 games for the Toon on the south coast.

The odds were firmly stacked against us today with everything to play for, including Rafa’s now tenuous position in charge. Some bookmakers were offering 3/1 on a Toon win and despite all the odds, it was for me the bet of the day. Sadly the bet went down, but despite everything I still believe there will be three teams worse than us.

The January transfer window may be too late, but it would in any case be once again ‘bargain basement’ productions. We are simply not good enough and are not in the market for the quality needed for this league.

Southampton have arguably a better forward line than the us, with Danny Ings and Charlie Austin, two players previously linked with a Newcastle. Yet they share our tally of 6 goals from 10 games.

This league is about quality, something distinctively lacking in this fixture.

It’s Watford and Bournemouth coming up. Look at the table and ask yourself; Where are our next points coming from?

Keeping the faith, well just about!
