Journalist reveals the no.10 NUFC are hoping to sign in January – Says Rafa has ‘money to spend’

According to Alan Nixon, Rafa Benitez has ‘money to spend’ in the January transfer window and is hoping to pull off the signing of MLS star Miguel Almiron.

The highly-rated Paraguayan playmaker was someone we were linked with over the summer, and his 12 goals and 13 assists in the MLS appear to have impressed NUFC scouts.

Despite his links to The Sun, Nixon was the man who broke our interest in Federico Fernandez, being the first to confirm that a deal was going ahead when we signed the Argentinian from Swansea on deadline day.

Here’s what he’s had to say on our interest in Almiron – suggesting there may be money to spend to sign the 24-year-old in January:

Benitez appears to have wanted a new number 10 for a few years now – with us currently having no one to compete with Ayoze Perez – so let’s hope something comes of this.

With us struggling to create chances or score goals (no shots on target on Saturday!), someone with Almrion’s pace and flair could be the ideal boost we need in January – but, like any useful player in this day and age, he won’t come cheap.

Here’s him in action:

  1. There is very little hope of staying in the PL, unless we buy PL players who can hit the ground running. Who would sign when Rafa is leaving at the end of the season? Also mediocre players in the PL would cost 20m + and we need at least 3. Missed the boat in the summer. To top it off no broadcaster in the US have taken up to broadcast the Championship this year, therefore no chance to see the Toon play for several years as we will not bounce back to the PL.
