Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles has signed a new SIX-year deal with the club today – giving us NUFC fans some much needed good news after a horrific start to the season.
The six-year deal sees him commit to the club until 2024, coming at an ideal time after interest from Chelsea and Tottenham resurfaced just yesterday.
Here’s what he’s had to say since putting one to paper at St James’ Park this week:
“I’m over the moon – it’s great news to be tied down to Newcastle for a long time. It’s pretty much all I ever wanted: playing in the Premier League in front of amazing fans.
”I think now as players, we just need to give the fans what they deserve. We need to put in the performances and make it even more special.
“Since I’ve been here, everything’s been really positive and now I need to get my head down and get this team higher up the league.”

Cynics will say this will only up his price if the big boys came calling in January or next summer, but it must be seen as good news.
We’ve had so little to get excited about over the past few months, and although this is just a start, let’s hope this can give the players, the city and the entire football club a much needed boost ahead of Saturday’s huge game with Watford.
Lascelles is a top professional, a brilliant captain and the no nonsense centre half we’ve been missing for years.
Greats news – now let’s get three points on Saturday to REALLY get our season going!
