Journalist reveals what Mike Ashley said to Rafa Benitez & the players after Watford win

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Mike Ashley paid Rafa Benitez and the players a visit after Saturday’s win over Watford, arriving at the dressing room to congratulate all involved after our first victory of the season.

The piece mentions how Ashley ‘accepted an invite’ to the dressing room after being in the stands for the sixth successive game, claiming the NUFC owner is now ‘keen to have a better rapport with the squad’.

Here’s a snippet from Lee Ryder’s piece in The Chronicle:

“The owner had made his way to the dressing room area after the final whistle of the win against Watford to pass on his congratulations to Benitez and also issued a “well done” message to the players after the hard fought win.

“Ashley had accepted an invite to the dressing room with the owner keen to have a better rapport with the squad.”

It was a huge win, sending 50,000 of us home with a smile on our faces for the first time this season, however any up-turn in form between now and Christmas must not detract from the money Ashley MUST spend in January.

We all know that he’s hoping Rafa can keep us up on the cheap, but there’s a LONG way to go – and a January boost may still be essential to see us through.

If Ashley is serious about making more of an effort with Benitez and the players, he needs to deliver when the window re-opens.

Free pizza, a ‘well done’ after we finally win a game or a holiday paid for is not enough, we need proper investment – especially when his actions in the new year will decide whether Benitez signs a new deal or not.
