A promising story has emerged from The Chronicle this week, with Lee Ryder claiming that there’s now renewed ‘hope’ behind the scenes at NUFC that Rafa Benitez WILL sign a new contract at NUFC.
Although nothing has been agreed as of yet, the piece states that there has been some ‘promising’ developments surrounding a potential agreement.
The story insists that it is NOT about money for Benitez, stating that the club are ready to sanction a long-term deal for the Spaniard:
Here’s a snippet from Lee Ryder’s latest piece on the gaffer’s future:
“Newcastle United chiefs are ready to sanction Rafa Benitez’s salary and a five-year contract with the club eager to retain the 58-year-old’s services beyond next season.
“But there is still work to be done before a full agreement can be thrashed out – despite some promising signs behind the scenes.
“Benitez is understood to be relaxed about the situation and will only commit his future once other aspects – aside from his salary – are agreed upon.
“The truth is it has never been about money for the ex-Liverpool and Napoli boss – even though the deal that remains on the table from last summer is understood be lucrative enough to make him one of top six bosses in the Premier League in terms of wages.
“With Newcastle keen to continue discussions and Benitez receptive to the prospect of staying, there is hope behind the scenes that there can be a happy ending to a longstanding wrangle over a new deal.”
Benitez clearly wants to see long term progression and ambition, so I imagine he is waiting to see PROOF that Ashley can deliver what the club needs to become succesful over a prolonged period.
Ashley generally takes a back seat role and lets his cronies do his dirty work for him, but perhaps his return to the scene has proved that he’s not only concerned about our position in the table, but Benitez’s future.
After all, his biggest asset will walk away from the club next summer if no one intervenes.
