Benitez keen to sign one of these THREE Premier League strikers in January – Report

According to the Chronicle’s latest transfer piece, Rafa Benitez is considering a move to sign Divock Origi, Liverpool teammate Dominic Solanke or Watford’s Troy Deeney ahead of the January transfer window.

Frankfurt’s Sebastien Haller and Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen are also mentioned, but it felt apt to focus on the above trio given Rafa appears to want players with top flight experience – especially when we’d need them to hit the ground running in the new year.

Here’s a look at all three potential January options:

Divock Origi

Rafa’s interest in the Belgian has been reported in the past, with the Chronicle recently confirming that he’d ‘enquired’ about his availability ahead of the January window – and it seems he’s surplus to requirements at Liverpool. He’s not proven, but he is a talented player Benitez could get the best out of.

The big Issue is they want to sell permanently (and seem to want a fee that would break our club record) and a loan isn’t possible as we’ve used the two available to us at domestic level on Rondon and Kenedy.

Troy Deeney

It’s been reported that Rafa wants an ‘experienced’ striker who’s proven at Premier League level, and he’d be that. He’s not playing as much at Watford these days but he is their club captain, so hard to say if he’d leave.

It would take a decent offer and the fact he’s nearing 30 may put Ashley off..

Dominic Solanke

Young and not exactly proven, but a talented player who Rafa will know from his time at Chelsea. He’s not getting game time at Liverpool, however it’s hard to know if they’d be willing to sell him permanently – and they’d have to if we wanted him, with Rondon and Kenedy taking up our two allocated domestic loan deals.

A talented player if we added him to our squad in a position of strength, but surely not the answer in the position we’re in?
