Club reporter confirms NUFC’s interest Serie A midfielder ahead of January transfer window

According to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle United are showing interest in Italian international midfielder Stefano Sensi – with club scouts watching him ahead of a potential bid in the January transfer window.

The diminutive Sassuolo star has been impressing in Serie A this season, with him recently earning a call-up to Roberto Mancini’s Italian national side as a result.

Here’s a snippet from the Chronicle’s piece, confirming that NUFC scouts have been tracking the Italian this season:

‘Newcastle United are understood to have checked out one of Italy’s newest internationals in Sassuolo star Stefano Sensi.

‘The 23-year-old is catching the eye in Serie A, with the Magpies scouting the 5ft 6′ midfielder just before his call up to play for Roberto Mancini’s side at international level.’

Whilst the signing of a number 10 appears to be one of our priorities in January, Sensi appears to operate in more of a deeper role – meaning he could be someone we are looking at given Hayden could leave in the new year and the fact Diame turns 32 next year.

One to watch in January – although the signing of a central midfielder may be lower down Rafa’s priority list?
