Ex NUFC flop scores incredible overhead kick – His 95th goal since leaving Newcastle in 2014

After a torrid spell at Newcastle, it’s hard to believe that Luuk De Jong has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the past couple of seasons.

He has managed over 90 goals and 50 assists in 180 games since leaving Newcastle after an unsuccessful loan spell in 2014, and he’s just scored this stunning overhead kick over the weekend for PSV:

As like quite a few Dutch strikers coming over to the PL he really struggled the find his feet, although this could be down to the fact that he was often played in the number 10 role which wasn’t a preferred position.

It comes as no surprise that Alan Pardew was manager at the time, (the same Alan Pardew that played Shola left wing and Danny Simpson centre half!) so there is an argument to say he wasn’t utilised to the best of his capabilities, and may have been ‘Pardewed’.

He was only with us for 6 months and many foreign strikers do take time to find their feet, so it would have been interesting to see how we would have managed given more time.

He put in two solid performances against Spurs in the Champions League this season (scoring twice), so maybe he has just genuinely improved as a player since his spell at St James’.

He’s the top scorer in the Dutch league at the ,money and will be interesting to see if a Premier league team will take a punt on him.
