Last night was a brilliant effort from all involved and a well deserved win, but there was one player in particular who really did show his class – and that’s Ki Sung-yueng.
The South Korean had endured a slow start to life at St James’ Park – with him even struggling to make Benitez’s matchday squads at one point – however he hasn’t half showed what he’s capable of in the last three games.
Since he came on for the injured Jonjo Shelvey in the home game with Watford earlier this month, we’ve won three out of three and he’s barely put a foot wrong wrong.
He showed exactly what he can bring to the team last night. His ability to keep the ball and stay calm when others couldn’t was so impressive once again. He used the ball brilliantly and set us up on attacks on countless occasions, with him almost always seeming to choose the right pass and keep us moving forward.
He and Diame complimented each other superbly and played a massive part in helping us control the game.
There’s no way Jonjo Shelvey can walk back into the team given how he has performed in the last three games – giving Rafa another positive selection headache ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Ham at St James’.
Have to say, I think Ki's been excellent for #nufc – so composed on the ball, & looks to build attacks whenever he can. Really impressed with him again
