Newcastle Legend Alan Shearer has tweeted his view on Mike Ashley’s latest takeover comments, believing his Sky News interview is all big ploy to avoid spending in January.
I must admit this crossed my mind, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It was around this time last year that Amanda Staveley’s bid to buy the club was filling the headlines, which of course came to nothing – with Rafa getting nothing but loans in the January window that followed once that deal collapsed.
Here’s what Shearer tweeted late last night, saying “January Transfer window approaching again is it?” in response to Ashley’s comments last night:
Ashley is very clever, and every interview he does will have a motive behind it.
He stated recently that he didn’t want any talk of a sale to be played out through the media, but that is exactly what he did yesterday, which suggests to me he is either trying to start a bidding war – or simply avoid January spending.
He knows what to say to give the fans false hope but many fans and ex-players such as Shearer can see through this now. We have heard this all before (remember the every penny generated statement!).
Lets hope this isn’t the case and the club can be sold to someone with ambition and someone that understands the club.
