According to ‘El Gol Digital’, Rafa Benitez is keen to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla – with the 32-year-old expected to leave in January after a lack of game time at the Bernabeu this season.
Casilla is a player Rafa actually brought to Madrid back in 2015, with him signing the Spaniard for £5m from Espanyol three and a half years ago – meaning he’s a player he’ll know very well.
The report states that Real Madrid have told Casilla to find a new club in the new year and are ‘certain’ that Benitez wants him at Newcastle – however another goalkeeper is surely the last of our worries?
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for him, but it doesn’t quite add up that we’d make a move for him now.
He may be struggling for game time in Spain, but I don’t think he’d be guaranteed many more minutes at Newcastle given how well Dubravka is performing – although we all know how much Rafa likes to have TWO capable options in each position.
The Spanish international hasn’t played a single minute for the La Liga giants this season, however he did feature 17 times in the 2017/18 season.

If you had said that 7 years ago, I would be a little more excited. There’s a reason he isn’t getting any game time.
