After a nightmare spell with PSG, Hatem Ben Arfa seems to be back with a bang after a stunning solo goal for new club Rennes in their impressive 2-0 win away to Lyon this week.
The Frenchman has had an up and down career, consisting of moments of sheer brilliance – and moments of sheer laziness, with it fair to say he has not fulfilled his potential given just what he is capable of when he’s up for it.
Here’s his latest stunning goal – being his 4th in 13 appearances since signing on a free for Rennes a few months ago:

This is classic Ben Arfa, showing brilliant dribbling, a burst of pace and a brilliant left-foot shot from range.
His talent and ability has never been in question, but his attitude and commitment often have – and this is why he’s never really settled at a club since leaving Newcastle.
Ben Arfa really struggled for game time at PSG, but in fairness that would be the case for most players with the talent they have. He was competing with Neymar, Mbappe and co for the same position, although things did turn sour for him during his last season in Paris – with him demoted to the reserves in the end.
Hopefully this is the start of him excelling at Rennes. After all, there’s few sights better than a Hatem Ben Arfa in full flow..
