Journalist reveals why he thinks ‘US investors’ backing Kenyon takeover have ‘serious money’…

Freelance journalist Paul Nicholson has made an exciting admission about the US firm backing Peter Kenyon’s takeover bid – claiming there will be “serious money” heading our way IF Rockefeller Capital are involved in any deal.

Kenyon and his team are said to be reviewing the club’s account as we speak, with the ex-Chelsea and Man Utd CEO having gained backing from a US-consortium – which is made up of American financial advisory firm Rockefeller Capital Management according to recent reports.

In light of this, Nicholson has admitted that his wife, Heidi Nicholson – a ‘born and bred New Yorker’ – knows a thing or two about Rockerfeller and believes there will be ‘serious money’ behind them if their Kenyon-led takeover bid is successful:

Given the money it takes to become successful and compete in the transfer market with the top 10, it’s good to hear that any potential investors could arrive with real financial ammunition.

As Paul’s second tweet states, it’s best we don’t get too carried as we’ve been here before, however the signs so far really do suggest that this takeover attempt is genuine.

  1. His wife is American so when she says there will be serious money behind an American bid we should take her ‘inside opinion’ as gospel. Really???

Come on Olly this is ridiculous! Tenuous at best

  2. No. You do a disservice to any and all true Newcastle fans. You’ve sold your soul for clicks, visits, and traffic! You are either a true Newcastle supporter and should be ashamed of yourself, or your just a pathetic hack who doesn’t even deserve this conment. You’ve one last chance to save your integrity: which i know you won’t even acknowledge let alone accept, but just in case, admit you don’t have any insight, club news, or insider knowledge. We’d have more respect for you if your did

  3. Let’s not get too excited about this Rockefeller Capital thing.

When there was talk of Staveley doing a deal it was claimed she had access to Middle East Sovereign Wealth funds. Sovereign Wealth funds investment is always low risk so as not to endanger the pot. Abu Dhabi’s Sovereign Wealth fund, for example, is just North of a trillion dollars. Under no circumstances would a Sovereign Wealth fund manager risk even a fraction of that pot on an investment that could half in value one day in May. Too high a risk.

Rockefeller Capital hold funds under management, invested in “sure things” (or as near as can be). You put your wealth into Rockefeller and they ensure you make money – and more importantly – don’t lose it.

So once you bought a football club for 350 million, and if you’re lucky it stays up, when do your investors start getting their dividends?
You pay 50 million for your striker? How long do you have to wait to see profit on that 50 million? And lets not forget the 6 million a year you’re paying him in wages.

Don’t forget the midfielder, left back etc that we also want.

The point here is that Wealth management companies do not put their stakeholders money into football clubs. Too high a risk. So while Rockefeller may have billions under management – we won’t be seeing it.

I don’t think anyone on here has ever claimed to have insider knowledge. Not once have we claimed to have links to the club or that we’re ITK; we just write about what’s out there and have our say on it.

This article isn’t ideally written and I accept that (I didn’t write it), but it is simply sharing what a journalist has said after speaking to someone who knows New York very well (see tweet) and is aware of Rockefeller Capital – which very few of us NUFC fans are I’d imagine?

I think your comments are a bit overboard mate. Ok, this one has been a bit over-egged, but to say we’re not true Newcastle fans or a ‘pathetic hack’ is pretty unfair to say the least.

I for one have a season ticket and travel back home from the midlands every week to watch us.
