Newcastle offered chance to sign Argentinian international for £6.5m – Report

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Real Sociedad stopper Geronimo Rulli – with the story claiming that the La Liga side are happy to cash in on him at just £6.5m to raise January funds.

This comes from Spanish outlet ‘El Gol Digital‘, who claim that Rafa’s preferred option is Real Madrid outcast Kiko Casilla – however  it’s said that Rulli is now being considered, with him expected to come at a lower cost than the Madrid stopper.

Reading that we’ll be considering the cheaper option sounds like an all too familiar story when it comes to how Rafa must operate under Ashley, but I’m struggling to see why we’d need another goalkeeper.

Rulli, a 26-year-old Argentine international who was one of the most highly-rated keepers in La Liga at one stage, appears to be a bargain at just £6.5m, but Dubravka has cemented his place as Newcastle’s no.1 – and we then have Darlow, Elliot and Woodman in reserve.

Rafa recently confirmed that Elliot could leave in January and Woodman probably needs to go out on loan, but even then another goalkeeper seems way down our list of January priorities.
