A devastating afternoon. We may have made mistakes and did shoot ourselves in the foot in the end, but Mike Dean missing a clear elbow on Ayoze Perez has changed a game we could and should have won.
If he sees this Willy Boly red card – which would’ve made it 10-men apiece and handed us a penalty to go 2-1 up – it would have been a VERY different story today.

Rafa was as angry as I’ve ever seen him in his post-match interview, with him demanding that VAR is introduced. Can you blame him when decisions like today have cost us as they have done?
We were in control and in a good position to win after Perez’s equaliser sent us into half time on the up. Although two errors from Lascelles for their goals and a big mistake from Yedlin leading up to the red card have cost us, it’s hard to accept defeat today after such big decision
This was a huge game for several reasons, so a defeat of this nature is so tough to take. It was a chance to respond at St James’ Park after being hammered by West Ham in our last home outing and an opportunity to pull six points clear of the drop zone – which was perhaps the most important thing given our Premier League security will play a huge part in convincing potential new buyers to seal a deal before the new year.
On a positive note (little consolation I know), Rondon was superb – holding up the ball well, running himself into the ground and having a huge hand in the goal – Perez responded from his horror show against West Ham and Atsu and Ki did well, but it’s a costly day, with Yedlin suspended, Fernandez picking up an injury and Lascelles having arguably his worst performance since we got promoted.
Huddersfield and Fulham in our next two will be absolutely massive key given we face a VERY tough run after Christmas (see upcoming fixtures below):

Stu – the government should be stepping in and saving the high street mate. The internet should not be allowed to take over – compete yes, but not takeover.
There are plenty other options for social housing mate, especially in the North. I know of plenty areas where houses are empty and just bring left to fall to pieces – especially over the coast – Peterlee and Seaham. Lots of them owned by private landlord owners who live down London and turned their backs on them coz the rent does generate the big money. It’s not worth the repairs in their eyes when it will only generate £300-400 rent.
There should be fines on those people who own multiple properties if those properties stand empty for more than 3 months.
Trust me mate, I know this to be true coz my mate is a property manager and has plenty of these properties on their books. The rich Southerns buy these properties and hire my mates lot to manage them. But the second something goes wrong and a repair is needed they can’t be contacted.

So it looks likely Rafa will revert back to 4-2-3-1 against Huddersfield with Fernández and Yedlin missing.
I suspect Dummett will come back in at LB, Lascelles and Schar at CB and Manquillo RB. I would much rather see Sterry play RB personally but I don’t see Rafa doing that.
The rest will be as expected I would imagine.

Firstly, I’m not sure what government can do about the high street. It’s not just this country. But secondly, I’m always worried when people start talking about gvt intervention in industries. It doesn’t really give entrepreneurs much comfort to invest if gvt can come along and intervene. The facts are that people prefer to sit on their arses and order rather than go out and buy. Sign of the times. Robots next mate.

We have lots of empty boarded up council properties on our estates, I don’t know why they don’t let people move in and do them up whilst being free of rent payments for a set period of time . They can carry out inspections to be sure all building regs are met and later on give the option to buy if they want. Better than standing empty and in decline .

Stuart/Sharpy: You mustn’t have read what I said when the Fatman first bought House of Fraser. So I will say it again 🙂
He will close all of the stores in crappy towns and shopping malls.
He will keep the prime highstreet stores but renegotiate the rents. They will no longer be Department Stores as we know them now and he will only redo the prime locations. Multipurpose and Multiuse. They have to be a destination so he will have bars/restaurants/a hotel/maybe some offices/high end Loft style downtown living spaces. And some retail like Flannels or Hamleys.
He got House of Fraser for next to nothing. Their trucks and warehouses were basically free.
He will also try to have the local councils lower their rates. To start with a 5 year deal but that will be extended indefinitely because they wont have a choice.
The current owners have no choice but to agree with Fatty because there are no other bidders for their properties.
There will not be an internet tax.
