Benitez linked with bizarre £3.5m move to sign Premier League defender – Surely not?

According to Calcio Mercato, Newcastle are one of three Premier League considering a January move to sign Sol Bamba – with Cardiff City said to be demanding £3.5m for the former Ivory Coast international

This story is bizarre on quite a few levels, however the report claims that Benitez ‘liked what he saw’ when we faced up against Bamba in the 0-0 draw in Cardiff earlier this season.

It’s bad enough hearing us linked with another goalkeeper this week, but the idea of another centre-back when we have FIVE capable ones is ludicrous – especially when Bamba’s best days are behind him at 33.

The story claims Cardiff would cash in at a ‘bargain fee’ of £3.5m, but when you think that we paid just under this to sign Fabian Schar and just over this to sign Federico Fernandez, I’m not sure this is good business.

One of the most bizarre rumours you are likely to see leading up to the January transfer window – and one that I would be very surprised to hear is true!

  1. Completely made up rumour. There’s no truth in this whatsoever. Sol isn’t going anywhere whilst Warnock is in charge of Cardiff… and he couldn’t be any happier than he is right now.
