Atlanta United president Darren Eales has once again hit back at claims that NUFC have agreed a deal to sign Miguel Almiron – stating that it will cost us around $30m (£23.5m) to sign the MLS star.
This comes after yet another Paraguayan reporter claimed today that the playmaker was on his way to Newcastle.
These reports have been played down by the Atlanta chief, however, with him saying the following to Sky Sports when asked how much it will take for Newcastle to sign the talented attacker:
“Unless it is something that is a really serious offer, we will not consider it.
The offer has to start with a 3 for me to consider it.”
Knowing Ashley, this will prompt an offer of £30 – or maybe 3 Sports Direct mugs and a 3-pack of Slazenger socks?
In all seriousness, it seems clear that Almiron is one of Rafa’s top targets and a player we’re seriously pursuing, but the big issue will no doubt be money – an issue we rarely come out on the right side of when Ashley is involved (especially when he’s ‘trying’ to sell the club!).
I have no faith in Ashley paying £23m plus, meaning the need for new owners has just went up a notch once again.
