NUFC ‘ready’ to make controversial move for Premier League striker in January – Report

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are set to make an attempt to sign Tammy Abraham in January – with Chelsea expected to recall him from Aston Villa in a bid to sell him in the new year.

The highly-rated England international was someone Benitez seemed hell-bent on signing last summer, however the 21-year-old turned us down in favour of a loan move to Swansea – something several Newcastle fans won’t have forgotten.

He went on to get 8 goals and 5 assists during the Swans’ relegation season and he’s since been loaned out to Aston Villa over the summer – with him bagging an impressive 12 goals in 16 Championship appearances so far this season.

That said, it sounds like Chelsea have the option to recall him from his loan spell with Villa next month – and the Northern Echo claim that they could cash in on him in the new year, saying ‘Maurizio Sarri does not regard Abraham as part of his long-term plans’.

The story states that Crystal Palace are also keen – and are willing to pay around the £10m mark for the striker – however I suspect Chelsea will be looking for around double that given the fees talented young English players seem to demand in this day and age.

Personally, I think Abraham would be a very smart signing. Many will be put off by the fact he ‘turned us down’ just over a year ago, but this is clearly a player Rafa rates, with the report stating that Benitez sees him as ‘one of the brightest young talents in England’.

  1. Here we go again, the transfer window looms and the speculation around Newcastle United starts. Clearly, Rafa is NOT letting anything out of the bag regarding potential targets so, how these so-called journalists know who we are chasing is complete and utter SPECULATION! How about some honest reporting for a change?

  2. Nobody signed, Darlow sold, 4 million profit made for fatty and another 2 fingers to the fans and city of Newcastle. If anybody thinks anything different will happen they are dreaming!

  3. I thought Tammy Tap in was on loan at Villa for the season..

I think this is a warning to West Brom over Rondon, that we have other options…
