Reliable source claims West Ham are set to offer NUFC laughable January swap deal

According to reliable West Ham source – @ExWHUemployee – (who have got quite a few stories right in the past), the Hammers want to sign Jonjo Shelvey this month – and a swap deal with Andy Carroll could be offered.

It could be right, West Ham may be offering an exchange, but I’d be VERY surprised if this is a proposal Rafa Benitez accepted, with it being a laughable offer if true.

Shelvey hasn’t been at it this season, but he’s a proven Premier League player with genuine quality who could be a real asset in an attacking side like West Ham’s. Andy Carroll, however, has barely been fit over the past few seasons – making any aerial presence or power that he possesses almost pointless given how regularly he’s receiving treatment on the sidelines.

It’s also worth mentioning that Rafa insisted no one was for sale apart this moth from Rob Elliot.

Some may feel Rafa wants a striker, but I don’t see how Carroll fits our system. He’s not mobile or fit enough to work in a system that relies on hard work and movement up top, not forgetting the fact we are VERY short on central midfielders right now – with Ki at the Asian Cup, Diame limping off last night and Hayden wanting out.

It’s laughable that Carroll has been linked 3 days into the January window and a deal that Rafa will surely shun if there’s any truth in it.

Give it a few days and we’ll be linked with a big money bid for Bas Dost..
