NUFC submit £7m left-back bid – & enquire about loan deal for Marseille forward – Reports

According to reports late last night, Newcastle have submitted a £7m bid for Rennes left-back Faitout Maouassa and also enquired about a deal to sign Marseille forward Clinton N’Jie on loan.

Starting with Maouassa, leading French outlet L’Equipe are claiming that we’ve made a £7m bid to sign the 20-year-old France youth international – who can also operate as a left-winger.

There’s confusion on two fronts here, however. He’s currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Nimes and the story is suggesting we’ve actually made an actual bid for a player – something many will struggle to believe given Ashley tendency not to spend in January (or at all!).

Then to N’Jie. The Daily Mail claim that we’ve now been in touch with Marseille over a potential loan deal for the Cameroonian forward – someone you may (or may not) remember from his forgettable spell with Spurs.

He’s been in and out the Marseille side this season and is said to be attracting interest from ourselves, Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Burnley.

We’ve shopped in Ligue 1 before and may be forced to again in Benitez’s bid to bring in another bargain or two, but a 20-year-old left-back and a forward who’s flopped in England in the past doesn’t sound too enticing to me.

  1. Marseille & Rennes – have we learnt nothing yet? Has the ghost of Carr really departed Fatty’s fun factory ?

  2. This is a statement about where the club is at. Ashley has ruined it. The club is barely worthy of support now. Can only really protest with your feet – when Rafa goes, I go. I’m actually starting to think it may not be so bad, at least I won’t to keep making excuses or have that ’empty’ feeling all the time.
