According to reports in Italy, Emploi playmaker Miha Zajc is now ‘considering’ a move to Newcastle – with his agent claiming that there’s ‘at least’ two Premier League clubs showing interest in him this month.
Zajc operates in the number 10 role for newly promoted Serie A side Empoli, with the 24-year-old having played 9 times for the Slovenian national side.
He has managed 2 goals and 3 assists in Italy so far this term, having bagged an impressive 8 goals and 16 assists during their promotion from Serie B last season.
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim he has proposals from both ourselves and Huddersfield, with his agent saying the following in response to those rumours:
“It is true that at least two Premier League clubs have shown interest in Miha. The profile of a player like him in England is increasingly sought after because he brings unconventional solutions and added value to the team. In my opinion, the speed with which Miha perceives football is ideal for the Premier League. But the market has just begun…”
He could well be the sort of player Rafa’s being forced to look at in fairness, but the fact there’s said to be several Premier League clubs looking to sign him hardly fills me with confidence.
That said, any move for Zajc would be proof that Benitez has been told to look at budget alternatives to Almiron – the £20m-rated MLS no.10 who is quite clearly his preferred option.
Here’s Zajc in action – just incase anything does come of this latest transfer rumours from Italy:
