Official announcement confirms NUFC have secured top talent on long-term deal – Great news

Some brilliant news has emerged in the last few moments, with the club announcing that U-23 star Elias Sorensen has now signed a three-year contract with the club – a deal which includes an option to extend.

The Danish striker has been in sensational form this season, with him bagging 19 goals in all competitions and currently being the Premier League 2’s leading scorer.

His contract was due to expire in the summer – and there’d have been no end of clubs ready to snap him up on a free – so it’s great news to hear he’s now signed after initial reports suggested talks had stalled.

Here’s what the 19-year-old has said to NUFC TV since committing himself to the club for another 3 and a half years:

“It means a lot – I’ve worked hard for it over the last three years or so and I’m delighted to sign with such a massive club.

“I think I’ve done well this season and when you do well, you get your rewards. I work hard in training every day and it paying off is just massive.”

It’s not the big senior signing Benitez may need to help us stay up this season, but securing one of our top young players is at least some good news after an awful few weeks.

Hopefully he can get back on the scoresheet tomorrow night, with our U-23’s set to face Sunderland in the eagerly anticipated Checktrade Trophy clash.
