Journalist claims West Brom keen to do January deal with NUFC – but it’ll only happen on one condition

According to Midlands reporter John Percy, West Brom are trying to sign Isaac Hayden – however they have received ‘little encouragement’ from NUFC so far, with any deal surely dependant on a replacement arriving.

It’s clear that Hayden wants to leave. Not only did he hand in a transfer request over the summer, he reiterated his desire to move closer to family just last week – showing his return to the first-team has not changed his mind.

He clearly isn’t settled and has personal issues to attend to further down South, but the fact we have so few central midfielders fit means Benitez will only let him go if a much needed replacement arrives.

Nevertheless, here’s what the Telegraph’s John Percy has had to say today, confirming that West Brom are on of several clubs who’re keen to sign him this month:

If we were proactive and had a replacement lined up then this move could suit all parties perfectly, but we’re not, are we?

Rafa clearly wants a number 10, more full-backs and another striker. There’s little optimism that these deals will get done as it stands, so the thought of us searching for a fourth choice midfielder that allows Hayden to leave will no doubt be low down the club’s priority list.

It’s a shame, but with Diame and Shelvey nusing injuries and Ki away at the Asian Cup for a few more weeks yet, it feels like there’s no chance of Hayden leaving unless a new central midfielder arrives.
