NUFC reject could be set for £13.5m move – just 18 months after Rafa sold him for £106k..

According to reports in Germany, Kevin Mbabu is edging closer to a move to Bundesliga side Schalke – with Young Boys looking so sell for €15m (£13.5m).

Considering it was recently revealed that we received just £106,000 when sanctioning his return to Switzerland in the summer of 2017, this really it looking like more and more of a big mistake from Benitez.

It’s been reported in Germany that Schalke are yet to meet Young Boys’ £13.5m asking price – offering £9m so far – however there’s new claims that they could sign him on loan this month with an obligation to buy him for a fee in the region of £13m in the summer.

It’s easy to say that we made a mistake in hindsight, but Mbabu always looked the part when he got a rare chance in the team.

Yes he’s excelled in a poor Swiss division, but he’s not looked out of place in their Champions League campaign against the likes of Man Utd, Juventus and Valencia and he’s now a regular in Switzerland’s national side.

A big mistake from Benitez or a player who wouldn’t have got his career back on track without a move back home?

  1. Another one let go by Benitez now worth a fortune to his latest club, don’t suppose we had an agreement for any by on clause?

  2. ……so what? And if the club had sold him for 10 million plus would the manager be given any of it for transfers or even the club’s infrastructure ? Recent business has only underlined the fact that profits are never reinvested and therefore only benefit the owner. I’m becoming a bit pissed that more articles are trying to discredit a manager who has worked wonders comparatively with such unreasonable budgets!

  3. Spot on Kelpo, like the funds Rafa is now spending!!! Rafa can only work with what he has got and although tactics are not often entertaining his track record is brilliant with the lack of investment Fatty has given him!!

  4. I agree that Rafa is being undermined however with yedlin & manquillo as right back options this is a serious mistake for a man with his talent credentials! If we had an abundance of talent at right back then I wouldn’t have had an issue with it but everytime this lad played he looked good maybe he wanted to go whatever the reason whoever sanctioned it made an error.

  5. Another go at Rafa. Get a grip man. Mbabu had only 5 appearances for us in all competitions despite being signed in Jan 2013, and was largely plagued by injuries. He was loaned out to RFC before Rafa even arrived and made no appearances for them.
Mbabu himself said (in a German newspaper interview) he was too young and immature to have come here and partied here too much also.
Don’t let facts get in the way of some provocation.
