According to The Sun, promotion chasing Championship side Derby County look set to make a loan move to sign forgotten Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot.
It’s been made clear by Benitez over the past few weeks that Elliot is now surplus to requirements at the club, with him recently stating that the 32-year-old was one of few players he’d be happy to let go this month.
That said, it’s only a loan move that has been mentioned, with the story stating that Frank Lampard wants some competition for current number one Scott Carson.
It could be a wise move for Elliot. He’s reaching the final few years of career so will be on the look out for game time, having failed to make a single appearance for the club all season.
A permanent deal would no doubt be preferable for the club, but with Dubravka, Woodman and Darlow all above Elliot in the pecking order, you’d think a loan move to a promotion chasing Championship club would appeal to all parties for now.
