Worrying news – Saturday’s game with Cardiff is now at risk of being postponed – Report

With snow falling around St James’ Park and weather warnings issued, The Mirror claim that Saturday’s crucial game with Cardiff is at risk of being postponed.

Temperatures dropped below freezing in the early hours and, as predicted, snow has fallen on Tyneside today (see the pictures below), with it only expected to get worse over the next 48 hours.

Here’s a snippet from The Mirror’s piece, suggesting that the game is now at risk of being postponed:

This weekend’s football is in doubt after snow hit parts of the UK.

The weather in the north east is providing cause for concern ahead of Newcastle’s visit of Cardiff on Saturday.

Rafa Benitez’s side face off against their relegation rivals at 3pm at St James’ Park. But there are fears over the encounter with snow falling on Thursday morning – and it is expected to continue with weather warnings issued.

Heavy snow showers are forecast throughout the day with temperatures dipping as low as -5.

You’d like to think groundsman and those in and around St James’ Park can react to the adverse weather conditions and make sure the game can go ahead, but it may all depend on just how hard the north-east is hit over the next 48 hours.

Our squad may be stretched, but Saturday’s game is a huge one for us – being a relegation six-pointer that we must win; especially with it coming before daunting fixtures against Man City and Spurs.

Fingers crossed!

  1. worrying? why? when we miss so many players through injury and asia cup??
and having played two games lately (Chelsea and Blackburn) we could use a break.

i call this good news if true!

It’d soon catch up with us and we need the points – especially when we have City and Spurs next in the league!
