Paul Merson proves he’s officially lost the plot with latest claim about Rafa Benitez – Wow..

Paul Merson believes the ‘unbelievable’ Neil Warnock is a better manager than Champions League winning boss Rafa Benitez – stating there is ‘no chance’ he’d have done the job Warnock has at Cardiff.

We know Merson isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, with him constantly making moronic comments in his punditry/comedy role at Sky Sports, but I’m honestly not quite sure where to start with this one.

Before I get into it, here’s what he’s said about Benitez ahead of Saturday’s game with Cardiff – suggesting he’s now not on the same level as Neil Warnock:

“Rafa Benitez couldn’t have done what Neil Warnock has done at Cardiff. No chance.

“Warnock is pulling up trees. He’s an unbelievable manager.”

Could Neil Warnock have gone to Spain and won two league titles at Valencia like Rafa did? Could Neil Warnock have taken that Liverpool side and guided them to Champions League glory? Would Neil Warnock have guided last season’s NUFC side to 10th in the Premier League.

I could go on, but I think anyone with an ounce of footballing knowledge will see why Rafa Benitez is the superior manager – whether we’re wearing our black and white tined glasses or not.

Don’t get me wrong, the last few years have been tough for Benitez, but this is a world class manager who has been working wonders with his hands tied behind his back.

Warnock has my respect, being a good, honest manager who’s done wonders for several Championship clubs, but let’s not compare him to Rafa Benitez – a man with a list of major honours on his CV.

After all that, Merson still backs Benitez’s Newcastle to beat Warnock’s Cardiff on Saturday.

  1. So Richard Keyes, Andy Gray, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Merson and basically anyone else who doesn’t agree with us have all “lost the plot”

  2. It must be a prerequisite to have “Village Idiot” on your CV prior to applying to be a sky sports pundit, failing that there’s always “Bein Sports” with Mr Keys and Co.

  3. he must be back on the sauce!! anyway he speaks from experience in the way he has manged top flight clubs dealt with idiot owners…oops he hasnt, what a ******* he is!!

  4. I wonder if Merson back on his knees chasing the white lines again , no he’s just jostling himself with Keys , Ferdinand, Wise, and Grey to get the best position to lick ASHLEY’S ****.

  5. It’s his opinion but in the situation we are in at present he is talking about not historical records. We all agree the latest benitez comments were not what you would expect from a quality manager, don’t think you would ever hear Warnock stating a miracle was needed. He would argue and fight to the last and always support his players without admitting defeat.
