Newcastle ‘very close’ to agreeing €15m deal for striker – Dubious report

According to dubious reports in Italy, Newcastle are ‘on the verge’ of agreeing a €15m deal (£13m) to sign Roma striker Gregoire Defrel.

This comes from Football Italia, who’ve shared a report from Italian outlet ‘ANSA’ claiming we are now close to striking a deal to sign the Frenchman.

Given this would involve a fee over £10m and us actually signing a 27-year-old striker on a permanent deal, I am holding serious reservations here – even if Sky Sports did confirm Rafa’s interest in the striker earlier today.

The Frenchman earned himself a £17.5m move to Roma in 2017, however he’s struggled to make any real impact with the Serie A giants.

He has found some decent form during recent loan spells away, however, scoring 7 goals over the first half of the 2018/19 season with Sampdoria and bagging an impressive 16 goals and 5 assists the season before last during a spell with Sassuolo.

He may be one to watch over the coming weeks, but I’d be VERY surprised if this is true given how unreliable certain Italian outlets have been in the past.
