According to Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke, Newcastle are now hoping to beat Celtic to the signing of Iranian left-back Milad Mohammadi this month.
The 25-year-old plays for Russian Premier League side Akhmat Grozny, with the O’Rourke claiming that we’ve sent scouts to watch him in action at the Asian Cup out in the United Arab Emirates this month.
Mohammadi is known for his versatility, with him being able to operate as a left-winger or right-back – although his preferred position is at left-back.
This would be a signing totally out of the blue, but it would tally up with the idea that Rafa is working with a very limited budget this month – with Mohammadi valued at just over £3m by Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Mohammadi also featured in last summer’s World Cup, being part of Carlos Queiroz’s organised Iran team that defeated Morocco 1-0, were beaten narrowly by Spain and held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in the group stages.
Might be a decent signing
