Gelson Martins deal takes yet another twist – and it could be good & bad news for NUFC..

According to the Mirror, Monaco look set to sack Thierry Henry in the ‘next 48 hours’ – news that could have a big impact on our attempts to sign Gelson Martins and Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca.

This comes just after reports last night confirmed that Martins could be set to join the Ligue 1 side despite a loan offer from ourselves, however news of Henry’s potential sacking could have serious ramifications as far as we’re concerned.

There’s been no news yet on how this could affect the Portuguese winger’s potential move to France, but you would imagine the Atletico Madrid man was massively attracted by the prospect of playing under one of the best attacking footballers of our generation – yet it looks like he’s getting the chop.

So, the good news is that our attempt to sign Martins *might* not be over just yet, but it also remains to be seen how Henry’s potential exit could impact our attempt to sign Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca.

It was confirmed yesterday that we’d submitted a loan bid to sign the Italian full-back and the Telegraph reported that Henry had sanctioned his exit – with Barreca struggling for game time since the ex-Arsenal striker took over.

The worry is the Mirror are now reporting that Henry’s predecessor Leonardo Jardim could be set to complete a shock return to Monaco – the manager who actually played Barreca before he was given the boot, meaning he *may* not sanction the left-back’s loan move after all IF he does return to the club.

Time will tell, but Henry’s sacking might just mean good news on the Martins front and bad news on the Barreca deal.

  1. No time for this loan or sale to go through. Magic 8 ball says “ask again later”, like in 8 years when this guy is washed up.
