After turning down the chance to speak about Mike Ashley on Sky Sports after fearing he’d be a “gibbering wreck on national TV”, Keith Downie has taken an unnecessary swipe at NUFC stat man Chris Holt on Twitter.
The north-east reporter suggested the likes of @bigchrisholt are “happy to dish it out on Twitter at Sky when they’re sat behind their keyboard” – but “bottle” their chance to speak on TV – totally ignoring the fact he was simply uncomfortable about the idea of appearing on Sky Sports News!
You can read the whole exchange for yourselves below (see series of tweets), but here’s how Sky Sports’ Keith Downie responded when NUFC fan Chris politely declined his approach:
“He doesn’t want to speak.
“Sadly there’s a lot of people – and I don’t just mean Chris – who are happy to dish it out on Twitter at Sky when they’re sat behind their keyboards but bottle the chance to actually speak.”
I know what you’re thinking, ‘it’s not a big deal’, but this for me is totally uncalled for from Keith here.
The idea that @bigchrisholt doesn’t feel able or confident enough to appear on TV does NOT undermine everything he posts on Twitter – with his stats and facts often showing up Ashley for the crook he is and summarising our struggles better than any sentences could.
Sky have the ability to post his stats – whether he wants to appear on their show or not, yet he’s practically been called out for saying no.
The facts present themselves, but it seems Sky don’t want to be associated directly with what may seem like an attack on the club – just incase they upset their good pal Mike Ashley.
It seems we weren’t the only ones who were less than impressed..
