Alan Shearer sends brutal two-word message to NUFC after FA Cup defeat to Watford..

Alan Shearer has shared his brutal assessment of Saturday’s defeat to Watford, simply tweeting “PATHETIC..AGAIN!” after we crashed out the FA Cup in pitiful style at St James’ Park

The defeat meant this is now the 13th straight year where we’ve failed to reach the last 16 of the FA Cup – a stat that completely sums up this miserable Mike Ashley era.

It wasn’t just the defeat, it was the nature of it – with it being a sad reminder of just how poor we are when a few of our key first-team players are missing.

Here’s Shearer had to say after the full-time whistle:

Some think Rafa got it wrong, but there’s only so much he can do. If he starts Rondon and he gets injured then he’d be criticised – and when you see how bad Joselu looked, we can NOT afford for Rondon to get injured!

It really was a poor performance and one totally devoid of any quality, flare or excitement from a Newcastle perspective – with ‘attacking’ trio Kenedy, Josely and Murphy all looking way below par against a Watford side that had made 11 changes..

Club legends like Shearer may not have lifted a trophy during their time on Tyneside, but he was someone who was at least used to seeing us compete.

Success would be within our grasp if Benitez was backed, but that dream feels a million miles away for as long as Mike Ashley remains at the club.

Rafa has represented hope ever since he arrived three years ago, but that hope is slowly fading into the distance – just as Benitez will be in a new months time if nothing changes.

  1. Ashley veiws nufc as an atm and has done for a long time. The cheek of pundits to say he spent his money on this and that. He swindled the club from sir John Hall and Freddy Shepherd pumped in some cash at the start to cover depths and that was it. He has always taken cash out of the club since and made us into a pound shop football club along the way.
