Just days ago, Paul Merson told Rafa to rest his team against Man City and focus on the FA Cup as we had ‘no chance’ of beating the champions at St James’ Park.
I think we were all shocked by the fantastic win last night, but the laughable part from Merson was to suggest resting players in the first place, as pundits like him have previously slated Rafa in the past for not ‘giving it a go’ – especially at home.

It may be improving slightly recently but as Newcastle fans, we are used to poor standard pundits talking about NUFC without the facts or research to back it up – Rio Ferdinand anyone? Paul Merson struggles to remember the names of players and seems to jinx whoever he predicts to win; I always think it helps when he predicts us to lose and this week was no different.
Following last night, we hope to sign Almiron today and the record transfer would be a massive boost to everyone. Joining the likes of Merson is Danny Mills, who admits “he has never heard of him.”
As we learn from watching Merson every week, the more ‘pundits’ that write Newcastle off, the better.
