Rafa Benitez & Miguel Almiron drop huge transfer hint – TWO players set to sign today?

Not only has Rafa Benitez admitted that he’s received some positive news on two ‘good deals’ for Newcastle United, Miguel Almiron has now posted his goodbye message to Atlanta as he jets to the UK to complete his move.

He may not be the only one signing today too, with the Chronicle confirming that Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca is also due on Tyneside – with both expected to complete medicals ‘in the next 24 hours’.

Here’s what Rafa Benitez had to say on the transfer front after last night’s win over City – with his sudden decision to talk about incomings suggesting we’ve FINALLY made a big breakthrough:

“Today before the game I was told we were progressing with some names.

“They could be good deals for Newcastle United.”

“If we have good news tomorrow it will be positive.

“It is not just about breaking the transfer record.”

To make matters that bit more comfortable, Almiron has all but confirmed he’s leaving on his official Instagram page.

He’s just sent this goodbye message to Atlanta, stating “Thank you Atlanta for all the support. I love you all.”:

Here’s Almiron all set to board his flight to England from Atlanta Airport (released around 2am UK time):

It’s happening folks – and it looks like Barreca will be joining him, FINALLY giving Rafa another left-back and a much needed number 10.

  1. 2 untested players in this league no guarantee they will hit the ground running. What can you expect when the team has been so under invested in for so long can’t help but be happy but do we really know what we are getting?

  2. The past failures and lies of Ashley are so strongly imprinted into the psyche, that we really do have to wait until the ink dries, …and then read very careful the fine print. There will almost certainly be exit clauses in case of relegation, so if they don’t hit the ground running and keep NUFC in the PL, it could be a very short stint. If we get relegated again, Rafa will go and it won’t just be Almiron who puts in a transfer request, either. If we stay up, it will make for some very interesting negotiations, but given Ashley’s past track record, I think it will require a lot more than just Almiron to convince Rafa to stay – he will want a set amount of money to be available, for him to have full control over, to rebuild the squad so it is fit for PL, challenging in cups, able to cope with a campaign in Europe, as well as a plan and timeframe and funding committments for the Academy and other development aspects of the game. I don’t think any of that will happen. Heck, Almiron hasn’t actually ‘passed his medical’ yet. 🙄

  3. Likewise, far too many lies and false starts, believe this when over the line, but this is better news than the feared no activity at all.
Ashley still loathed because he has no ambition for the club and this is just a little insurance to protect his investment against the drop. Rafa will still go rather than commit with ambition less ashley at the helm.
Fantastic result for Rafa and toon last night, they played with their hearts.
