According to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca will cost the club a loan fee of €1m (£875,000) – with the deal also including an option to buy him for a fee of €9m (£7.8m).
The Sky reporter has also confirmed that the Italian will be undergoing his medical ‘this morning’, with it looking increasingly likely that both he AND Miguel Almiron will arrive before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
Here’s what Gianluca Di Marzio has had to say on the deal earlier today, confirming that we will have an option to sign in the summer:
“The player is joining on loan until the end of the season, for a €1m fee, and a €9m option to purchase is included in the agreement.
“Barreca will begin to undergo a medical this morning with the Magpies.”
Barreca is a bit of an unknown quantity, but it’s good that Rafa looks set to finally get an attacking left-back on our books.
He’s struggled at Monaco, failing to feature much in Thierry Henry’s plans before he was sacked, however he did impress in Serie A with Torino.
