Ex-Premier League boss reveals why Almiron & Barreca will be ‘perfect’ for NUFC – Must watch

Speaking on Sky Sports News last night, former Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal has praised NUFC new boys Miguel Almiron and Antonio Barreca, saying the pair will be ‘perfect’ buys for Rafa Benitez.

As we know, the pair were our two deadline day signings, with Almiron arriving from Atlanta for a club record fee and Barreca signing on loan from Monaco with an option to buy.

Firstly, here’s what he had to say about Almiron when speaking live on last night following news of his £21m move from the MLS:

He then said this about Italian defender Barreca – praising his offensive play and crossing ability, suggesting Rafa could play him as a left-wing back:

He admits that Barreca’s weakness is his defensive play, however Rafa can work on that as well as anyone – and we can’t forget that it is an offensive left-back who’s able to play at wing-back that he was clearly trying to bring in.

As far as Almiron goes, he really does sound perfect for us. A player who can break with pace on the counter, score, assist and work hard for the team is EXACTLY what we’ve been missing in and around Salomon Rondon.

High praise from Carvalhal here and a great insight into two players he clearly feel will work very well in Rafa Benitez’s system.

  1. Watched this him last night, he has a lot of knowledge on players every time time he was asked about a player he knew about them. Unlike a lot of the pundits (Danny Mills) etc who lack knowledge and spout anything to make them look important.
